If your company is not part of Ecoembes yet, we can process your domestic packaging for you:
From January 1, 2025, if you put commercial packaging on the market, you will have to pay for and process any resulting waste. We help you achieve this through Ecoembes Comerciales, our PRO created as an association that ensures representativeness in decision-making. Leave it on us.
At Ecoembes, the price you pay for each commercial packaging item varies depending on the material of which it is made, its weight, and the business (the final holder of the waste) where its useful life ends.
There are 2 types of business (or final holders) depending on how they manage packaging waste:
- Businesses that carry out the comprehensive, private management of more than 80%* of the commercial packaging waste of which they are the final holders, without making use of the municipal channel.
- Businesses or final holders that do not reach that 80%* comprehensive management figure (that is, more than 20% ends up in the municipal channel), and those that directly convey all their waste to municipal bits, and other cases, which we can call “Other final holders.”
To calculate your contribution to the PRO you must know the distribution of the units of packaging that you put on the market, between the two types of businesses described. This will determine the final amount, as you will only pay for the items of commercial packaging that end up at “Other final holders” (Type-2 businesses).
For packaging items that end up being privately managed by Type-1 businesses, you will pay €0 into the PRO.
*In 2025, 80% applies; in other years the figure will be 85%

According to Royal Decree 1055/2022 on packaging and packaging waste, the EPR affects you if you put packaging on the Spanish market, whether domestic, commercial or industrial.
Specifically, if your company:
- Markets packaged products under its own brand or distribution
- Packages or manufactures products that are likely to reach the end consume
- Imports or acquires packaged products in the European Union
- Is a merchant and supplies a product together with bags, wrappers, etc.
- Markets a packaged product online and/or with packaging for shipping

These are the differences between domestic, commercial and industrial packaging, with a few simple examples:
- Domestic packaging is intended for consumption by individuals and can be purchased by them. For example, a bottle of lemonade.
- Commercial packaging is intended for commercial activity. For example, the box in which the lemonade bottles are transported to a supermarket.
- Industrial packaging is intended for industrial activity. For example, the boxes of lemons that will be used to create the lemonade.

In the case of domestic packaging, we have been working closely with the government agencies tasked with waste management operations for more than 25 years. We currently have an agreement with more than 8,000 municipalities in Spain.
In the case of commercial packaging, our involvement relies on agreements with the private managers in charge of this activity, as well as on agreements with government agencies for the packaging that makes it into the bins on the street.
And in the case of industrial packaging, we want to make it easy for you so you only have to interact with one party. Which is why we will reach agreements with PROs of industrial packaging so that we can provide this service.
In the case of commercial and industrial packaging, you have all of 2024, since your company becomes responsible for this packaging starting on January 1, 2025.
In the case of domestic packaging, the obligation has been in effect for over 25 years, so you have to join as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
Yes! Each type of packaging has its own process.
That is, if your company already lets Ecoembes handle the EPR for your domestic packaging, and you want us to handle the commercial packaging as well. You have to fill out the following form, and we will then send you the contract.
As for your industrial packaging, we will soon offer this service through agreements with other PROs.
